§ 31.303. Auxiliary.

  • The Director of Fire and Rescue is authorized to recognize the Jacksonville Emergency Medical Auxiliary for the Rescue Division. This auxiliary shall be a corporation not for profit organized under the laws of Florida and shall maintain a volunteer organization of certified EMS personnel to serve and assist the Fire and Rescue Department in promoting good emergency care to residents of and visitors to Duval County. The Director of Fire and Rescue shall make rules to implement this Section, authorize the expenditure of public funds and make use of personal services and public properties as may be necessary to provide support and assistance to the auxiliary. The members of the auxiliary shall be provided with public liability and malpractice insurance coverage while participating in City-sponsored events or in emergency situations, at the request of the Director of Fire and Rescue or his designee. Such insurance shall be subject to the limitations and provisions of F.S. § 768.28, both as provided by the Director of Finance and Administration under Chapter 128. Auxiliary members participating in City-sponsored events or in emergency situations shall be under the supervision of City rescue officers.
