§ 804.709. Unlawful to alter or cover license plates, citations, mobile home stickers, or validation stickers; penalty.

  • (a)

    No person shall alter the original appearance of any registration license plate, citation, or validation sticker issued for and assigned to any motor vehicle, whether by mutilation, alteration, defacement, or change of color or in any other manner. Any person who violates the provisions of this Section shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $200. The Public Parking Officer, or their designee, is authorized to attach an immobilization device to the vehicle pursuant to Section 802.112. A violation of this Subsection shall constitute a class D offense.

    (b)

    No person shall cover, hide, cloak, obscure, or camouflage a vehicle's license plate, or the vehicle's license plate mount or location in which the license plate is supposed to be fixed, of any vehicle located in a front yard, or in a location visible from the street or a public right of way. A violation of this subsection shall constitute a class D offense.
